Liberal representative democracy has increasingly been criticised from multiple sources as failing to deliver on its promise. The Covid pandemic has brought home the fault lines in our society; between key workers and those who can work at home; between old and young; between black and white; between individual freedom and state control; between scientific advice and personal convictions. We will explore these issues both in history and the present day.
